Samsung will release the next Exynos chipset on January 4, 2018

Besides Qualcomm and its Snapdragon 845 expected to hit the market in 2018, being placed in the majority of High-End smartphones, Samsung also have prepared its known Exynos chipset for the next year.

Although the South Korean manufacture have not specified the name of the newest Exynos (2018) chipset, it publicly announced the date when the new SoC will be announced. There is a chance of this being in fact the Exynos 9810, which is about come underhood of Galaxy S

It’s unlikely to see this new chipset packed in any other handset other than Galaxy S9 lineup and possibly the Note 9 lineup. A few years ago some other companies like Meizu adopted the Samsung in-house made flagship SoCs, so only the future will tell if another brand other than Samsung will adopt the newest chipset.

According to reports the Exynos 9810 will be manufactured under Samsung’s 10nm FinFET technology, just like the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 (also manufactured by Samsung). Although no confirmation or deep details have been delivered until the moment, we expect the chipset to sport the Mali-G72 GPU and LTE Cat.18 support.

The teaser’s tagline “Beyond a component” may also suggest something different from earlier Exynos chipsets. Since Huawei, Qualcomm and Apple have unveiled chipsets with AI capabilities and support we expect the Galaxy’s mother to also follow-up this new trend with a AI-ready Exynos SoC.

The full specifications sheet of the newest Samsung processor will be revealed in a few days ahead, during the CES 2018 technology fair. So if you’re interested on this, keep tuned in the first week of 2018 for more details.

Google might open retail stores in India to push its smartphone sales

Google is reportedly keen on penetrating Indian smartphone market and plans to open offline stores soon. The world’s second-largest smartphone market is currently dominated by Samsung and Xiaomi and is a super competitive industry. Up till now, Google has simply relied on online sales and billboard advertisements to sell its products. This has not led to fruitful results with the Pixel line of phones.

In reality, Google is new to the Indian smartphone market, and to make a dent, it must at least make its presence felt. So, aside from improving sales, offline stores will also help in that objective. With the Pixel 2/2 XL, the tech giant for the first time opened pop up stores in malls like Promenade, Select and Mall of India. According to Economic Times report, positive response to these stores is one of the motivators of this move. Google was approached for a response but their representatives have neither affirmed nor negated the report.

If and when Google does kick off these offline stores, they will not only showcase their Pixel line of phones but also other products like its smart speakers, Pixel Chromebooks, and Daydream headsets as well.
Meanwhile, Pixel 2/2 XL were also recently launched in India. However, sales have been lacklustre. One of the bottlenecks, we feel, for the search giant is its pricing. It remains to be seen whether this report holds any water. But if Google is pondering on this move, we should see some effort in this direction in 2018.

Samsung Galaxy S9 Render Confirms Lack of Dual Cameras

Fresh render of the Samsung Galaxy S9 has popped up on Slashleaks. It confirms the absence of dual cameras and shows a more ergonomically placed fingerprint scanner.

The design does not differ much from its predecessor, the Galaxy S8. The primary differences are the smaller chin on the front and the repositioned fingerprint scanner. The top chin features a myriad of sensors along with the front camera. The display seems a bit longer than the S8. The render shows three physical buttons, volume control, power and the dedicated Bixby button. On the bottom lies the USB Type-C port flanked by the 3.5mm jack and the speaker grill.

Earlier, a back case was reported as belonging to the Samsung Galaxy S9. The render shows a design that would compliment the case perfectly. The best part of this design is the new position of the fingerprint scanner. In the Galaxy S8, reaching the scanner was a bit of a task, which Samsung learned from and implemented a vertically placed scanner in the A8 and A8+. If the render is to be believed, the fingerprint scanner is actually placed in an accessible position. But since Samsung is yet to give any word on the design of the Galaxy S9, we suggest you take this news with a pinch of salt.

Huawei Enjoy 7S Officially Announced At 1499 Yuan ($226)

As planned, today Huawei held a conference in Xi’an and officially released the Huawei Enjoy 7S aimed at younger customers. This is a full-screen smartphone made especially for the thousand-yuan market. There are a few versions with a 3+32GB memory combination priced at 1499 yuan ($226) as well as a 4+64GB variant at 1699 yuan ($256). The pre-sales have already begun, but the phone will ship on December 22.
The Huawei Enjoy 7S is packed with a 5.65-inch full-screen with an aspect ratio of 18:9, resolution of 2160×1080 pixels, and supporting black screen gestures, three-finger screenshot, and a few other user-friendly features. But what’s more amazing this display is put on a quite acceptable-size housing with dimensions of 150.1mm × 72.05mm × 7.45mm. Thus it is identical to the iPhone with a 4.7-inch screen. So single-hand operations are implemented with no additional efforts.

iPhone X Sales Are Below Expectations – Wall Street Analyst

Prior to the release of iPhone X, there was so much anticipation some of which suggested that this smartphone will sell more units than the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus put together. Recall that when the iPhone 8/8 Plus was launched back in September, it recorded a “low” turnout of customers and this was attributed to the expectation of iPhone X. However, a report by Wall Street

analyst, Karl Ackerman, says that the level of interest in iPhone X “has been below initial expectations as users appear to have gravitated toward the previous iPhone models.” Sales are not high enough to suggest that Apple is incurring mega interest as all three iPhone models (iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X) are selling at a pretty decent rate, the analyst added.

Apple’s fiscal first quarter of 2018 runs from October through December 2017 and Ackerman projects that the company will ship 79 million iPhone units which is slightly above the record 78.29 million it delivered during the first fiscal quarter of 2017.  He also added that Apple is set to ship about 56 million iPhone handsets for its fiscal second quarter of 2018 (January – March 2018). This is higher than the 51.2 million it shipped within the same period last year. Despite having a higher sales relative to previous years, the turnout is still conspicuously lower than initial projections. The company could as well establish a new record for iPhone shipment this quarter but we wouldn’t know that for sure, at least until January 30th, 2018 when its performance for the current quarter will be announced.

Huawei P11 to debut in MWC 2018 with a Q1 2018 release

Huawei have been in the hotlines for a very long time in the last months, this could be different today. The first rumors pointing the newest Huawei P11 smartphone started to appear in the past weeks, suggesting super camera features to differ between the recent released Mate series.

According to these rumors the next generation of P smartphone will reportedly come with a 40MP Leica triple-lens camera setup with 5x hybrid zoom, and a 24MP front-facing snapper. These specifications seem close to reality since one of major strong points of Huawei’s P line always have been its cameras.

Today a new leak is agitating the Huawei’s fans and enthusiasts that are anxious for Huawei P11. The post come from the famous leaker and tipster Roland Quandt, suggesting that we may first see the handset during MWC 2018 in late February 2018, with the actually release happening before the end of 2018’s Q1.
So the Huawei P11 seems to be a Q1 2018 thing (again). We were just promised “exciting new products” with a focus on camera and AI for Q1 at a local german Huawei Xmas event. Could be MWC like the P10.

Samsung Galaxy S9 Alleged Front Panel Leaked: Fake?

Once the Snapdragon 845 was officially announced, we have started getting more and more rumors and leaks about the upcoming flagships that should sport this chip. Undoubtedly, the Samsung Galaxy S9 will be the first or among the first models. But its predecessors have come with a revolutionary design. So we are expecting the Galaxy S9 will offer something unseen as well. We have already seen some leaked photos showcasing the company has narrowed the chin keeping the forehead at the same size. If those photos are real, Samsung has canceled the symmetric design. But today an alleged front panel of the forthcoming Galaxy S9 has been leaked showing the company still uses the same appearance.

Earlier we have got some leaks concerning the hardware of the Samsung Galaxy S9. Those spotted data revealed the next-gen Samsung flagship will be packed with a 5.77-inch display. Nothing has been said about its curvature. So we assume the Korean manufacturer will continue using a double-curved design on its models.

However, recently we learned Samsung is among five manufacturers that are working with Synaptics, which has announced the world’s first under-glass fingerprint chip to go on mass production. Moreover, Samsung has announced the world’s first 512GB eUFS storage chips that should appear on the next phones as well.

So even if this spotted photo is real, and Samsung won’t redesign the front panel, there are too many improvements making the Samsung Galaxy S9 one of the most anticipated smartphones in the world. At last, the back panel will be redesigned for sure. As you know, the fingerprint scanner is placed too close to the camera module preventing normal interaction with the phone. Thus even if the Galaxy S9 doesn’t manage to become the first phone with the under-glass fingerprint scanner, the back-mounted regular reader should be moved.

Asus ZenFone Max Plus M1 with thin bezels, 4 GB RAM launched in Malaysia

Weeks after launching the ZenFone Max Plus M1 in Russia, Asus has now unveiled the same handset in Malaysia. The device is, by all means, a mid-tier phone with a thin bezel display, the second after Asus launched Pegasus 4S in China. As can be presumed from the “Max” moniker, a big battery is one of the pros of this handset, as is a dual camera setup on the rear. Moreover, it has a good sturdy unimetal build that has now become a staple of mid-range phones.

In the camera department, the rear of the phone holds 2 cameras of 16 MP and 8 MP resolution. The latter is a 120-degree wide angle lens. On the other side, the selfie camera is a 16 MP shooter with f/2.0 aperture.
Like we said earlier, the handset is for heavy users. That’s why it has a 4,130 mAh battery. That coupled with a power-sipping SoC and screen should give those users great battery life. Asus does claim it has built-in fast charging support in the handset but it reportedly tops up at 5v/2A. For the software, there’s nothing to be excited as the phone comes with Android Nougat along with ZenUI 4.0.
For the connectivity part, the ZenFone Max Plus M1 has good options. You’ve got 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi direct, Bluetooth 4.0, FM Radio, GPS, 3.5mm audio jack, and a MicroUSB 2.0 port. It also has a fingerprint reader, face unlock, and dual SIM support.
As for how much it costs, the ZenFone Max Plus M1 is priced sensibly at MYR 899 (approx $220 / Rs. 14,000). Potential buyers can choose from 4 colour shades: Sunlight Gold, Azure Silver, and Deepsea Black. There is still no word on availability in other countries as of yet.

Huawei collaborated with Project Phoenix Devs to bring life to Mate 10’s Projection Feature

When Huawei announced the Mate 10 series, the company not only announced the features of the first AI capable SoC the Kirin 970, but also gave special focus to a whole new feature that their newest flagship was packing, the Easy Projection.

The feature is very similar to the Samgung DeX, debuted with Galaxy Note 8, and resemble the early concepts of Windows Phones working with Windows 10. Basically the Easy Projection works by bringing a desktop experience to users without the need of an expensive accessory to dock the handset. In counterpart of its competition Huawei Mate 10’s rely only on its USB 3.1 Type-C to activate the feature in a desktop.

Apparently there is some additional info behind the feature that Huawei didn’t announce, after an investigation conducted by the folks at XDA-Developers, an APK disassemble revealed some parts of the Project Phoenix OS in the Huawei Easy Project Feature.

The Phoenix OS is a project developed by the Beijing Chaozhuo Technology, basically is an Android Based operating system for computer with x86 platform and some ARM devices, however for the later the software is a little more capped than for the full x86 Desktop platforms. Those who remember from the goner Remix OS it’s basically the same thing, a Desktop Multi-tasking interface running atop of Android.
When Huawei announced the Easy Projection they didn’t mention any involvement with Project Phoneix, this can’t be easily justified by the fact that Chinese behemoth didn’t wanted to advertise another product on their smartphone launch. After digging in the APKs behind the feature XDA devs found Phoenix OS logo and a link the redirect to a page containing a curious information.

Millions 'stolen' in NiceHash Bitcoin heist

Highly professional" hackers made off with around 4,700 Bitcoin from a leading mining service, a Bitcoin exchange has said.

The value of Bitcoin is currently extremely volatile, but at the time of writing, the amount stolen was worth approximately $80m.

The hacked service was NiceHash, a Slovenia-based mining exchange.

It said it was working hard to recover the Bitcoin for its users, adding: "Someone really wanted to bring us down."

The attack happened early on Wednesday, said NiceHash's chief executive Marko Kobal. Attackers accessed the company's systems at 01:18 CET (00:18 GMT). By 03:37 the hackers, whom the company believes were based outside the European Union, had begun stealing Bitcoin.

The theft comes as the price of Bitcoin continues to surge, dumbfounding experts and stoking concerns of a bubble.High-stakes attacks like this are not uncommon, with several large breaches and thefts hitting Bitcoin and other related services over the past year.

NiceHash is a mining service, a company that pairs up people with spare computing power with those willing to pay to use it to mine for new Bitcoin.

59% of iDevices Runs On iOS 11

American multinational technology company (Apple) recently released the usage details of the different iOS versions. The result shows that the current iOS 11 is the most accepted as it definitely comes with some new features and improved performance than the last versions. The data confirms that 59% of iDevices are already on the two months old iOS 11. About a month ago, this value was 52%.
iOS 11 predecessor, iOS 10, is still quite relevant as 33% of iPhones, iPads, and iPod touch devices run on the operating system while only 8% of iDevices yet  fancies older versions of Apple’s mobile OS. Well, the final 8% will probably not reduce anymore because the likes of iPhone 5C, 3rd generation iPads, and 4th gen iPod touch are stuck with 2015’s iOS 9 and older versions as they no longer obtain updates.

YouTube Hiring More Humans to Train Computers to Police the Site

SAN FRANCISCO — Google’s YouTube is hiring more humans to teach machines how to think like humans.

New Facebook App for Children Ignites Debate Among Families

SAN FRANCISCO — Few big technology companies have dared to create online products for boys and girls ages 13 and under.
But on Monday, Facebook introduced an app, called Messenger Kids, that is targeted at that age group and asks parents to give their approval so children can message, add filters and doodle on photos they send to one another. It is a bet that the app can introduce a new generation of users to the Silicon Valley giant’s ever-expanding social media universe.
facebook app

In doing so, Facebook immediately reignited a furious debate about how young is too young for children to use mobile apps and how parents should deal with the steady creep of technology into family life, especially as some fight to reduce the amount of time their sons and daughters spend in front of screens. On one side are parents like Matt Quirion of Washington, who said Facebook’s snaking its way into his children’s lives at an early age would most likely do more harm than good.
“I’m an avid social media user, but I don’t feel my kids need more social interaction,” said Mr. Quirion, 39, whose three children are between ages 3 and 9. “They need their personal time to process all the social interaction and learn to grow into mature people.”
